The Best Day Trips from Reykjavik: A Local's Guide

Easy Travel Iceland 6 min read

Reykjavik may be one of the world's smallest capitals, but its location makes it the perfect launchpad for exploring some of Iceland's most spectacular landscapes. All of our tours depart from Reykjavik with free hotel pickup, so you don't need a rental car or complicated planning.

Golden Circle (89 hours): The most popular day trip in Iceland, and for good reason. Visit Þingvellir National Park, watch Strokkur geyser erupt, and stand at the edge of the mighty Gullfoss waterfall. Our tour adds the colorful Kerið crater and the charming Friðheimar greenhouse. Available as a private tour.

South Coast (1011 hours): A full day of dramatic coastal beauty. Walk behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall, marvel at the power of Skógafoss, explore the village of Vík, and walk along the black sands of Reynisfjara. A longer day but worth every minute.

Northern Lights (34 hours): From September to March, join our evening aurora hunting tour. Our guides use real-time weather data to find clear skies and maximise your chances of witnessing this bucket-list phenomenon. Free rebooking if no lights appear.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula (11 hours): Often called 'Iceland in Miniature,' this west coast peninsula packs mountains, glaciers, lava fields, coastal cliffs, and fishing villages into one incredible day. Highlights include Kirkjufell mountain, Arnarstapi sea cliffs, and the mystical Snæfellsjökull glacier-volcano. Available as a private tour.

Why Take a Guided Tour? Iceland's weather changes fast, roads can be challenging, and a knowledgeable local guide transforms sightseeing into storytelling. Our guides share history, geology, folklore, and hidden spots you'd never find on your own. Plus, with hotel pickup included, there's zero stress. just show up and enjoy.

Pro tip: If you're visiting for a week, we recommend doing the Golden Circle on day 1, the South Coast on day 2 or 3, the Northern Lights one evening, and saving Snæfellsnes for a private day trip later in your stay. That combination gives you a comprehensive and unforgettable Iceland experience.
